My story

We knew we wanted to change everything in this house and bring it back to life. It was very run down and in desperate need of some love and attention, but we were ready to take on a project like this. Creating a cosy home was important to us, so I used colour and pattern in every room and filled it with accessories to make it feel warm and inviting.

We’ve even made some of our own furniture, including a coffee table and a side table in our living room. We’ve loved putting our own stamp on our home and if we can save money by doing it ourselves, then it’s even more satisfying.

The kitchen and the bathroom were the biggest projects and took the longest to complete. Being without them during the renovation was hard, but worth it in the end. Having a breakfast bar in the kitchen makes it a more practical and sociable area, too. It’s not a huge room but we’ve definitely made the most of it and have put up a large mirror to create a greater sense of space. We’ve also added pops of colour on the walls with artwork and colourful hanging plates. The neon light was a bargain from a sample sale from Bag & Bones and adds a bit of fun too. Adding lots of special trinkets in each room was important to me so everywhere you look, something catches your eye, making it feel really homely and personal.

We had to replaster the walls and ceiling first, and we removed the old radiator because it took up half the wall space and meant we couldn’t have the layout we wanted. We then set about replacing the coving, painted the walls and added shutters, which look lovely from the roadside as well. We decided to keep the original log burner, which came with the house, and I’m glad we did because it really warms up the room in the cold winter months. With a navy and white colour scheme in mind, we chose a dark blue velvet
