Every month, we ask two interior stylists to solve a real room design dilemma, each creating a moodboard to help our reader find the perfect solution for their space
LOOK ONE: CHIC RETREAT
Sophie’s problem living room
‘I recently moved into this house, so the living room décor is the previous owner’s and isn’t to my taste. The grey scheme can feel quite cold as this is a north-facing room, so I’d like ideas for how to add colour and personality to make it cosier and more welcoming, as well as how to zone the space into living and dining areas. I’m pretty open to most colours and patterns, as this is my first house, so I’ve never decorated before – as long as it has that cosy feel I’m after!’
LIKES:
warm shades, tactile textures and a chic vibe
DISLIKES:
fussy details and chintzy florals

why it works
This scheme allows for a budget-friendly makeover that doesn’t scrimp on style: painting over the wallpaper with a soft beige, and painting the lower half of the walls in black, will create a more sleek, contemporary vibe, as well as complementing Sophie’s existing furniture. Dial up
