CREATIVE AND COLOURFUL UPDATE

‘After trying lots of samples, I finally chose Farrow & Ball’s Hague Blue as I didn’t want a shade that was too dark. I decided to paint all the woodwork as well as the ceiling, as I didn’t think it would have the same impact if the woodwork was a different colour’ style idea Painting candy stripes adds a playful feel to the room

My story

‘After having Lily, we decided to move from Leeds to be nearer to my family. This place was a repossession and some of the fixtures, like the boiler, were condemned. However, the house was a bargain for its size, and it didn’t need any major building works which was a bonus.

I knew we’d have to replace the shabby kitchen and bathroom in time, but decided to decorate the place to make it feel like home while we saved. I really wanted to give colour-drenching a go – though I was nervous while we were doing it as I’ve never gone for such a bold look before. We’ve not been able to wave a magic wand to get the house renovated, and it’s taken four years of saving and hard work to get this far. But that’s the reality of creating a home and I feel so proud looking at how full of personality it is. It feels good knowing we’ve done it all ourselves.’

WHAT I WANTED TO CHANGE

Parts of the house were condemned, and it used to be an unloved student property so it really needed a complete overhaul. Luckily the layout worked well, though we knew
