IT was a successful outing for Abbie Newbury, who took a gold and overall win at elementary with Seagry Danita (D’Egalité x For Romance), as well as an overall prix st georges (PSG) and inter I silver win on Seagry Firstamour (For Romance x Stedinger) – who is known as Amy at home.

“‘Dannie’ was bred by Keith Taylor at Seagry Stud, and I’ve ridden her from the start,” said Abbie. “We sold her last year to Alicia Griffiths, a grade IV para rider, but Alicia has kept Dannie with me for training and we work closely together.

“Alicia did a para international at Hickstead earlier this month and she won her first test, which is awesome.”

In the PSG, there was a three-way tie for the overall win, with Abbie finishing level on 68.68% with Christian Lovell (Sir Robinson) and Beth Miller (Just Dave).

“Dannie was an embryo transfer out of Amy, who I’ve also ridden from the very start,” said Abbie. “She was the first one that I went to the stud to start riding and I’ve become a part-owner in her as well, which is super-exciting.

“I’m hoping this year she’ll get her international qualifying score for small tour. The tempi changes have been our nemesis but we achieved all our lines in both tests, which I was over the moon about.”

It was a personal best score for Beth and also a milestone win for Christian, who rides for Emile Faurie and has recently stepped up to small tour.
