THE 10 NEW THINGS WE THINK YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT

1

Who doesn’t want to be a bit more Nordic? The focus on living well and all that effortless style… well now, thanks to a new collab between Swedish powerhouse Ikea and Finnish favourite Marimekko, you can get double the cool points in one hit. The Bastua collection is a range of 26 products featuring warm wood, rippled glassware and (our favourite) a fun design inspired by giant rhubarb leaves that’s found on bags and trays (plus kimonos). As Henrik Most, Ikea’s product and design manager, says: ‘The collaboration encapsulates the sensations of endless summers and the simple beauty of Nordic nature in furniture and accessories.’ We’re sold. Antiques-inspired homeware by Libs Lewis

Amagpie at heart and an avid rummager at antiques fairs across the country, Libs Lewis, designer and owner of Domestic Science, worked as an antiques dealer from the age of 21. Now, inspired by 19th-century pieces, she’s launched the Ditto collection of moulded home accessories. Incorporating a stylish mix of old and new is where it’s at in interiors at the moment, and the bobbin lamp stand and bamboo frame are fantastic modern takes on vintage classics. They’re created from moulds taken from original antiques using a composite of hard-wearing wood ‘flours’ and resin – the process ensures every perfectly imperfect surface detail is allowed to show and bring the piece to life – and they come in custom shades including Sky Blue, Mustard, Apple Green and Red. For more details, go to domesticsciencehome.co.uk.
