‘Although the bathroom was huge, the layout didn’t flow. Most of the fittings, including an outdated curved shower enclosure, were cramped together and the bath was unnecessarily wide. The floor and walls were covered in beige tiles’

What inspired your room renovation?

I had a really clear vision of how I wanted the bathroom to look and feel. My design ideas were heavily inspired by the Japandi trend, which is a blend of Scandi and Japanese aesthetics using lots of natural materials and pared-back styling. It took me two years to save up for the renovation, so that gave me plenty of time to plan and research my ideas in detail.

How did you manage the makeover?

Although I’ve renovated the whole house, the other changes have been cosmetic so I tackled them myself. As this was my first bathroom project, I knew I needed the help of an expert to make my vision become a reality. After chatting to Reece from Stewarts Kitchens & Bathrooms (@stewartskitchens) about my ideas for the room, I hired him to do the renovation as he made me feel that what I had in mind was doable. The whole project took him three-and-half weeks from start to finish.

Did you face any particular challenges?

One of the biggest issues, which I hadn’t expected at all, was working out the tile layout. As I chose two different kinds of floor tiles, it was complicated arranging them in the best way to match the grout lines and achieve a seamless look.

Were you able to stick to your budget?

To save money, I kept to the original layout as much as I could. That said, I did slightly overspend on smaller items such as accessories that didn’t feature in my original budget.
