STYLE INSPIRATION

As the seasons change, turn your space into an inviting retreat

REFRESH YOUR TABLESCAPE

Whether you’re hosting a dinner party or just sitting down to a quiet supper for one, place settings make all the difference. A proper tablecloth and crisp set of napkins will make every meal feel special and, for autumn and winter, candles will bring a cosy glow. Gold details (think napkin rings and place-card holders) and hand-finished ceramics will add to the sense of occasion.

GO FOR GOLD

Metallic finishes radiate warmth as light bounces off their surface to create a reflective glow. As well as choosing golden accessories, consider furniture too – aconsole table with an attractively shining glint, for example, is sure to become a statement in any space.

INDULGE IN LUXE MATERIALS

Velvet is undeniably sumptuous. For an up-to-date take on the fabric, go beyond its traditional theatre-seat red version. The cinnamon hue shown here, for example, looks and feels relaxed but no less luxurious. Don’t be afraid to mix in a single velvet armchair or sofa beside upholstery made from leather, cotton or linen – just prepare for it to be the most in-demand seat in the house.

EMBRACE SLOW COOKING

In the kitchen, natural wooden textures and hints of metallic will bring a sense of warmth. Cast-iron dishes, weathered chopping boards and traditional range cookers all instantly tick the ‘cosy’ box. For the latter, many brands now offer more compact styles to achieve the look in kitchens where space is at a premium. Hearty stews and soups make the ideal autumn comfort food.

ADD TEXTURE TO WALLS

While paint and paper might be the most obvious choices for walls, giving them a proper texture instead can transform them into a real highlight of a room. Whether as an accent or on all four walls, natural wood grains will add warmth and character. Try The Wood Veneer Hub for rustic panelling or Naturewall for more contemporary cladding.
