Just how do the crème de la crème of creativity get ready for the festive season? We asked a few of our favourite tastemakers to give us a sneak peek at their celebrations…

‘The boldest hues are joyful, uplifting and energising, and help to create a feeling of celebration,’ says Sophie. ‘Injecting a boost of different shades in your home is a great way to switch things up and signal that the festivities have truly begun.’ For Sophie, this means jewel tones, ranging from ruby red and emerald green to turquoise and gold. ‘I want my home to look like a box of Quality Street,’ she continues. More memories are sparked by her collection of antique baubles: ‘I’ve inherited these from my family, and they’re a real mish-mash. I’ve run with this theme and added lots of additional baubles and garlands over the years.’ But for Sophie, colour isn’t just for the festive season. ‘I apply the same concept for Christmas decor as for my interiors,’ she adds. ‘You can have as many colours as you like as long as they sit together harmoniously. I never put a limit on the number.’

JONATHAN ADLER

The design icon, known for artfully blending the polished with the eccentric, loves the magic of gifting

‘So much of my year is spent being a Christmas elf,’ says the potter and designer Jonathan Adler. Renowned for his collection of tailored furniture and unexpected accessories, Jonathan’s brand is the perfect destination for indulging in some glamorous Christmas shopping. ‘I preside over a gifting emporium,’ he explains, ‘so I’m never at a loss for what to give – my present drawer is always stuffed!’ When it comes to choosing the perfect present, Jonathan suggests taking the lead from the character of each recipient. ‘Are they a fashionista who’s into tea? A haute hippie who can’t get enough games? A preppy prince who’s always sipping a gin and tonic?’ From there, go the extra mile. ‘Give them the best, most outré version of what they’re interested in,’ he says. ‘A tea set with hand-applied gold details, a high-gloss backgammon board with slithering snakes on it, or a brass bar tool set. If it’s something they’d never buy for themselves, you’re on the right track.’
