THE PROBLEM

The original en suite was badly designed with a tiny bath and no view

THE SOLUTION

‘Extending the house on the ground floor meant we could expand upstairs, too. Stephen wanted a copper bath in our new bedroom en suite, so we found a stunning model at BC Designs and designed the space around it. I wanted the effect where you walk into the room and have a wow moment when you see the bath, and then another when you see the view. To achieve this, a central wall was built, with the bath on one side and the bed on the other. The wall was clad in large marble-effect porcelain tiles, which feel deeply luxurious. A huge new window gives us the incredible view we always wanted. The shower, vanity unit and loo are separated from the main area by a steel-framed pocket door, allowing us to eke out as much space as possible. The project took eight months but was worth the wait!’

FOCUS ON COPPER BATHS

If you want to make a luxe statement that’s bursting with wow factor, opt for a copper design

n Because copper is a superconductor, the walls of the bath warm quickly, and hold heat for longer than cast iron or acrylic.

n Pure copper is a very low-maintenance material. Simply wipe it down with a mild cleaning agent and a non-abrasive sponge. To prevent spotting, dry with a soft cloth.

n High-quality copper has a ‘living finish’. New rosy-pink metal reacts with oxygen in the air over time, which enriches and deepens the colour and finish, producing an attractive, antiqued patina.

n Many copper baths have a nickel-plated interior, which helps keep the cost down. Nickel, though not quite as effective as copper, is still an excellent heat conductor. Prices start from
