THE PROBLEM

The bedroom lacked an en suite, while the adjoining room was under-used

THE SOLUTION

‘We were thinking about moving, but decided to put the money into renovating our home from top to bottom instead. Alongside a kitchen extension and loft conversion, I wanted a proper main suite, and I knew our neglected spare room would make a fabulous en suite.

‘We’ve been lucky enough to stay in some beautiful hotels, and I was keen to recreate that luxury, spatype ambience. I was after a chic, neutral palette, plenty of light, and a calm, classic look in tune with our period house. I found Simply

FOCUS ON

If all-over tiles or wallpaper are not your thing, try faux cladding. It’s the perfect complement to a period-style room

n Faux panels are easy to create and add grandeur to a space. They are made by attaching lengths of softwood mouldings to walls, which are then painted. Choose a slim, basic profile for a low-key look, or boost the embellished feel with something more detailed.
