UNDER THE CREATIVE EYE OF I NTERIOR DESIGNER ALICE LEIGH, L UCY AND CONOR FITZGERALD HAVE GIVEN THEIR HOME A NEW VIBRANCY

HOME NOTES

Lucy and Conor Fitzgerald live here with their three sons. The interiors were designed by Alice Leigh Design.

A five-bedroom double-fronted Victorian property in west London.

1 “A neutral backdrop creates the perfect blank canvas”

‘The open-plan living room, which opens on to the dining area, was a great place to inject subtle colour, pattern and texture with accessories and statement lighting. We opted for warm earthy tones, geometrics and natural flooring and we were inspired by sculptor Margit Wittig’s lighting. This neutral space felt like the perfect opportunity to display one of her jewel-like chandeliers.’

2 “A vibrant modern chaise contrasts w ith the original marble f ireplace”

‘We chose full-length linen curtains and woven sisal flooring to improve the acoustics of the music room as all three of the children are keen musicians, playing guitar, piano, trumpet and oboe. Conor and I both work from home and because of the layout of the ground floor, our daily soundtrack is often a combination of all four instruments!’

3 “Strong shapes and handmade pieces add character”

‘It was important to us that we maintained the original period features of the house. The high ceilings, ceiling roses and cornicing are particularly striking, so we drew attention to them with beautiful statement lighting.’

4 “The new splashback brings a f resh look to the kitchen”

‘We liked the style of the existing white Mark Wilkinson scheme, so rather than taking it out and starting from scratch, we updated the island unit with a teal paint colour and added a matching herringbone-tile splashback.’
