THE LAYOUT

The hallway leads through to an open-plan kitchen-dining area, with a separate utility and cloakroom; at the front of the house is the living room. Upstairs are two bedrooms, a bathroom and study. On the second floor is the main bedroom with a dressing room and an en-suite bathroom.

T heambitious renovation plans that Sarah Warrick and Rachel Adler (@worthing_renovation) had for their Victorian terraced house caught the eye of TV’s George Clarke, who helped them transform their home into a cosy and contemporary space made for easy living, as Rachel explains…

‘We were living in Brighton in a tiny house and were craving more space. We wanted a home we could improve, extend, and make our own. We liked the vibe in nearby Worthing, and we could afford a bigger property here. This classic terraced house had beautifully proportioned rooms but a small kitchen which was ripe for conversion. We got the keys in November in 2019 but we waited six months before starting any building works as we wanted time to plan out the renovations.’

‘We got rid of the old dining room to create a separate utility room and increase the size of our living room. To do this, we had to remove a chimney breast, put in a new stud wall and steel supports above. Then our builders tackled the side return extension, creating an open-plan kitchen and dining area. We only increased our kitchen footprint by four and half metres, but it made this space work harder. The most exciting part of our build was when all the extension glazing was fitted as it instantly filled our home with natural light.
