‘Mine is the kitchen. It reflects our personalities and shows off my love of colour and texture. I used terracotta to zone the dining area, while the existing cabinets were in good condition, so we resprayed them dark blue. My motto is revamp what you’ve got.’

2 “Play the opposite of being safe with colour”

‘Choosing a scheme is scary, especially when it comes to colour. There’s a temptation to go for pale shades to brighten up a hall, but we used a dark, dramatic blue under the dado, which actually works to elongate the space and make it feel bigger and brighter.’

3 “Repurpose a w indow to use inside”

‘This internal window was already here between the back room and the kitchen when we moved in, and I love it. I hung pots there with trailing plants to create a unique design feature. It maintains a degree of privacy between the two spaces, while allowing natural light to pass through.’

”‘The existing downstairs layout,with a largeroomat the frontandasmallsnugleading into the kitchen, felt a bit old fashioned, so we knocked through. I linked the two spaces with colour, using blues and pinks, to help make the two distinct areas sit cohesively together. The room works so much better for us now, and feels much more modern in style.
