A three-bedroom detached new-build in Deal, Kent, built on the site of Lynne’s bungalow
1“Allow your style to evolve”
‘I’ve acquired a lot of the furniture over many years and it just so happens it all fits well in my new home. One of the things I sourced recently, however, was the dining table as I needed something to fill the bigger space. My previous table would have looked ridiculous here! I found this three-metre-long antique table on eBay and matched it with antique chairs from Kempton Market.’

2 “Choose colours that feel soothing”
‘I didn’t want bright-white walls, and I found this shade through trial and error – Iput so many samples on the walls! It looks different in every light and has a slight green tint to it, which felt right as my schemes include lots of relaxing neutrals and natural, earthy tones.’
3 “Built-in pieces create a Scandi vibe”
‘During the planning stages for the house, I had a 3D model made and I realised that my old sofa just didn’t suit the dimensions of the living area. So, I opted for a built-in design and it was definitely the right choice as it creates such a smooth flow. The platform wraps around in front of the windows on one side, and I also have built-in cabinets that hide the TV and provide storage for books. Everything fits and functions really well, and I love the finished look of it against the birch slatted wall.’
4 “Use a good view as a starting point”
‘As I lived in the existing bungalow for two years on the site of my new-build, I had time to decide what I wanted from my new home. And I always knew I would make the most of the incredible view by putting the living areas upstairs, where I spend most of my time. It does mean that the garden is only accessible through the bedrooms on the ground floor, but by building this terrace I’ve created a
