STYLE TIP

Display artwork in frames painted to match your woodwork, or one shade lighter or darker for contrast

2 PAINT YOUR WOODWORK IN A BOLD STAND-OUT SHADE

Turn doorways, window frames and skirting boards into a feature of your room by painting them a complimentary colour to your painted or wallpapered walls. Traditionally white was the go-to choice for woodwork, but a more cheery colour will elevate your décor in an instant and allow a stunning wallpaper to really sing.

3 Create an eye-catching display by hanging a collection of colourful trays on the wall.

For a similar shade of paint, try Joyful Pink matt, £21 for 1ltr, YesColour

4 PAINT A DECORATIVE BORDER

Adding a painted scalloped or wavy-edge border around a window frame is a great way of livening up a plain wall. You’ll only need a little paint in a bright shade, so mini tester pots or paint leftover from your other DIY projects are ideal.

5 HOW TO UPDATE A DISPLAY CABINET WITH WINDOW FILM

Give an old display cabinet a new look with reeded-effect window film. It will make an inexpensive glass-fronted piece of furniture look much more luxe and doesn’t take long to do.

Start by measuring the size of your glass panels so you know how much film to order. Some brands will sell it by the roll so you can cut it to size yourself, while others will send you an exact piece to fit your panel.

Once you have received your film, clean the glass to remove any dust or sticky marks, then leave it to dry. Cut your film to size if needed.

Next take a spray bottle, fill it with water and spray onto your glass panel.

Quickly apply the film to the glass, starting at the top and slowly peeling off the backing as you smooth it onto the glass. Use a squeegee or credit card to smooth out the air bubbles.
