SPOTLIGHT ON

Archived designs

Some designs are just timeless, looking as relevant in modern homes as they did when they were created. The Agnella by Brintons collaboration with the V&A draws on this with the Design Discoveries rug collection, inspired by the museum’s archives. It’s wonderfully eclectic, with influences spanning from the 17th century to the 1920s, including textiles from Armenia and the Pacific islands, Arts and Crafts wallpaper, and this lush botanical pattern adapted from copper-plate designs in the Bromley Hall album.

LISTEN This is more than a podcast about planting – Alice Vincent is on a mission to unearth why it is that women garden, describing the garden as a place where stories are buried and life unfolds. While Alice chats to well-known guests on Why Women Grow, they cover a wide range of topics such as motherhood, spirituality and saving the planet.

READ It’s no big surprise that sales of camper vans have soared since the pandemic. Like our editor in chief Heather Young has done, Dee Campling transformed her own Volkswagen Crafter with a Scandi look, and has included it in her book Camper Heaven (£25, CICO Books), along with other inspiring case studies and plenty of van-life advice.

DO Head to the Bristol Balloon Fiesta at Ashton Court Estate, 10-13 August. The event offers early morning ascents and night-glows with hot-air balloons lighting up to music, plus entertainment for kids and live music. Admission is free; visit bristolballoonfiesta.co.uk.

NEED TO KNOW

Beauty meets utility

The new Morris & Co Outdoor-Performance collection of fabrics taps directly into the celebrated 19th-century designer William Morris’ ethos that you should not have anything in your home ‘that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful’. Combining charming, exquisitely toned nature-inspired prints with a versatile textile that can be used inside and outdoors, the fabrics, in a wide variety of designs and colourways, are UV- and water-resistant, wipeable, colourfast and antimicrobial.
