1 COSY UP A LIVING ROOM FOR WINTER

Make your living space all set for a cold snap with lots of tactile textiles and warm wood furniture. Layer rugs on hard floors, add cosy textured cushions to your sofa and include some blankets and throws that you can snuggle up in on chilly evenings. Checkerboard prints are big this season, so it’s a great excuse to invest in a couple of new additions!

2 TRY THE TREND FOR COLOUR DRENCHING

From the floor to the walls, window dressings to accessories, drenching a room in the same – or a similar – colour is a great way to embrace a hue that makes you happy. Deep, dark shades like this rich blue will create a bold, luxurious look that’s full of drama.

STYLE TIP

Use this trend to offset another colour or material, such as wood and rattan

3 Show your ceiling some love by painting it in a standout colour or by papering it for a statement look.

4 ADDA LUXE LOOK

Give candles the Midas touch by dipping them in gold leaf or liquid gold leaf. Arrange clusters of slim dipped candles in short vases half filled with salt to hold them in place, then line up the vases to create an elegant table centrepiece.

5 HOW TO TRANSFORM PANEL DOORS

Upcycle a cupboard with these easy-to-make hessian panels

■ Remove the doors from the cabinet and take off hinges and brackets. Carefully remove any glass panels.

■ Measure the glass you’ve taken out and, using a roll of hessian, cut fabric rectangles slightly larger than the glass – around 2cm extra on all four sides.

■ Using a staple gun, attach the hessian to the inside of your doors, stapling to the back of the frames to secure. Start with the top edge and then move onto the bottom, while gently pulling the fabric to keep it taut. Make sure you don’t cover the holes where any brackets will go. If you turn in the edges of the hessian and fold under slightly, it will give a neater finish and prevent the hessian from fraying.

■ Move onto the sides, stapling until all four edges are secure.

■ Put the hinges back onto the doors and hang them back in the cabinet.
