PINTEREST’S HEAD OF HOME MATT SIBERRY SHARES THE TOP TRENDS THAT PEOPLE ARE ‘PINNING’ TO ENCOURAGE A CALMER, MORE HOLISTIC HOME

Our homes are very much an outward reflection of ourselves, but can also reflect back onto us. I do try to avoid exaggeration, but everything in our homes has an impact on our wellness in one way or another, physically and mentally. If this makes you lift your head out of this magazine and look around the room, don’t panic! There are few things a quick tidy can’t fix.

I’ve previously mentioned the brilliant storage solutions I’ve seen Pinterest users searching for – good storage will also help to put your mind at ease. Tidiness is the foundation of wellness in your home, and people flock to Pinterest to discover, save and shop practical solutions to boost their home mood. It could be as easy as a living room rejig, a fresh lick of paint in a new colour, or adding mirrors to make the most of the natural light we have so little of at this time of year. (I really indulged in mirrors in 2023, and it’s paying off in a big way).

So during a month which might be gloomy outside, here are some ways to find inner peace in your home…

HIGH QUALITY AIR

Recently there’s been a bigger focus on air quality, and this can have a huge impact despite the actions towards it being fairly minimal. The easiest? Opening windows. It may be cold, but if you can wedge a door and a window open in the morning, it will give you a natural boost of energy. If you truly don’t fancy a chill on a February morning an air purifier can help. If it also regulates humidity, even better!

SOFT EDGES

Consider furniture with softer edges in the home, as it allows for a cleaner flow, especially if you’re looking to make a room feel lighter and have the appearance of more space. Love chairs especially had a big moment at the end of last year, offering the perfect seat to snuggle up as a couple or – even better – by yourself, and I’m sure we’ll see them become a favourite of many living rooms.

Soft furnishings can also build a sense of calm in any room; muted colours regulate your mood, but brighter textiles featuring prints continue to reign supreme with many interiors brands.
