CLEVER TRICKS TO MINI DECOR PROJECTS… WE ROUND UP THE SIMPLEST, QUICKEST WAYS TO MAKE YOUR HOME MORE BEAUTIFUL NOW

1 PAINT KITCHEN BAR STOOLS

Inject some colour into your kitchen by refreshing wooden bar stools (or dining chairs if your space is open plan) with a coat of paint. You could match your seating to the cabinets for a unified look by going for a similar shade, as has been done here with this soft duck-egg tone, or create a point of difference with a bold contrasting colour instead.

2 CREATE A HALLWAY NOOK

Hallways aren’t always given the attention they deserve, so show yours some love by carving out a scheme, however large or small the space may be. Wallpaper is ideal for a warm, welcoming look so be confident in your choice and, if there’s room, add a spot to sit and put on shoes, plus hooks and hanging space for coats and bags.

STYLE TIP

Opt for a freestanding coat rack as an all-in-one seating and storage solution

Create your own seat without sewing!

■ Cut a piece of plywood or MDF to the size of your bench or seat.

■ Place the board on foam, around 7.5cm thick. Draw around it to mark out the shape then cut the foam.

■ Set the foam on the board and drape wadding over the top. Cut around the wadding, about 5cm longer than the bottom of the board on all sides.

■ Use spray adhesive to stick the foam to the board, lining it up on all sides.

■ Lay your wadding over the top and use spray adhesive to attach it to the foam on the sides only, not the top. Trim the wadding to size, making sure it reaches the bottom of the board on all sides without wrapping underneath.

■ Place your chosen fabric on top and cut it to fit, with some extra on all sides to wrap underneath the seat. Flip the seat over and staple the fabric do
