A craving for art The illustrator and concept designer discusses balancing a passion for her work with family and personal time

Piper has a powerful desire to make art that amplifies voices of people who historically haven’t had a voice. Her Stop Asian Hate piece is an example of artivism.

“I wake up at 6.15am. I like to start with deep breathing, scripture and meditation, then I have avocado and salmon, always.

I take my kids to school, then sit down around 9am. I sketch and get myself loose for the day’s work, often I find the answers to problems this way, then I start creating sketches for the project. When I get feedback from the client, I’ll do some cleaning up and refining, and send it back again before I add the colour.

I’m pretty solid about taking lunch at noon. I make tacos a lot. I’ll watch The Mindy Project or Bridgerton, just something that gets me away.

At 4pm I grab my kids, then I head to the gym. It’s me time, with no scrolling. I have dinner with my kids, take a walk, play video games, then usually I put in one more hour. I find that at night it’s not the
