River bream feeder rig

RIG SCHOOL

If you want a hassle-free presentation to compile a big bag of running water slabs, you won’t go far wrong with this one…

SHOALS of bream are a common feature of our larger lowland rivers and make a great target right through the year. Big catches, often made up of impressively-size fish, can be had with simple feeder tactics.

This rig is designed to be easy to tie and to rarely tangle. It allows the size of the feeder to be changed quickly, which is useful if the bream decide to move further out into the river as the session progresses, or the flow changes. The rig can even be stored on the rod made-up between trips, making it very efficient.

Natural baits such as corn, worms, maggots and casters are all offerings that work well on this set-up. Load the feeder with a fishmeal groundbait packed with micro pellets and a few chopped worms for the best results.

Start off with a hooklength of around 60cm, but if bites slow down try fishing a longer trace. Conversely, if bites are coming quickly try shortening down to a 45cm hooklength that puts the hookbait closer to the feeder.

Whether you are getting bites or not, recast accurately on the same line every 15 minutes to keep a stream of enticing feed going into the river.
