1 THEY BLEND IN WITH THE LOOSEFEED

There was a time when ‘stand-out’ baits such as bright wafters and mini boilies ruled supreme as hookbaits, but they’ve lost their allure on some fisheries. This is because the fish have increasingly started to associate them with getting caught. A 6mm expander pellet or two, however, will blend in with the micros on the frame of the feeder, making it almost impossible for the fish to sense danger.

2 MIXED BAGS ARE ON THE CARDS

Big hookbaits such as wafters, boilies and hard pellets can be quite selective, and will tend to attract only carp and F1s. Switch to a softer bait such as an expander and it’s anyone’s guess what will come to the net next, with big skimmers, tench, crucians or even barbel a possibility.

The best way to hook expanders when using a feeder is via a Quick Stop on a hair rig. Using the needle, push the plastic stop through one or two pellets. Remove the needle and secure the baits with the stop.
