THE nation is awash with natural waters, but finding out about their true potential can often prove problematic.

They rarely hold the volume of matches that carp and F1 waters do, and so reports that give clues to their current form are few and far between.

Accurate and reliable social media pages for these venues are either non-existent or seldom updated, leaving word of mouth the only real source of information.

It’s enough to make some look elsewhere, with many preferring to head to a commercial where they can get detailed advice that all but removes the chance of a poor day.

Last month, we revealed how Embryo Angling had taken control of Bedfordshire’s Broom Family Lake, turning the formerly neglected water into a prolific mixed fishery.

That isn’t the only venue that they’ve aimed to put on the map, though, as a lake in Nottinghamshire that had flown under the radar for decades is now under their control.

Langold Lake is located just north of Worksop, within a tranquil country park, and has been a closely guarded secret for many years. Day tickets are priced at just £5, and under-18s can fish for free.

Catering for up to 64 anglers at a time, depths vary drastically, with 5ft at one end and 12ft at the other.

There’s plenty of diversity in the swims too, with vast swathes of open water to explore on some, and tighter, more intimate zones in the shallows featuring overhanging trees and weed beds.

Several matches have been run at Langold since Embryo took over, and results are promoted on the regularly maintained and growing social media pages.

Roach, bream and perch are present in very healthy numbers, with weights up to 40lb banked in recent weeks. Carp and pike to over 20lb are also resident, providing opportunities for general pleasure, match and specimen anglers alike.

Some of the very best in the land have sampled the sport and have been so impressed that they’ve rejigged their diaries to pencil in a return.
