Happy New Year, and thanks for purchasing this latest issue of IYCF.

I hope that you all enjoyed the festive period and received plenty of new fishing tackle to put to good use over the coming weeks and months.

The start of any new year is synonymous with the setting of targets and goals and I always like to give myself a couple of angling-related ones. One thing I really want to work on in 2024 is being able to fish more accurately at range, both in terms of rig placement and baiting up over the top, as it’s definitely an area I’m weak in and it certainly would have benefited me on a water I was fishing last year.

I also want to try and make more time for trying different styles of coarse fishing and targeting more species. One of the perks of this job is that I get to read about all sorts of various tactics for pretty much every type of freshwater fish, yet when I reflect on an average year’s angling I tend to only really target the same few species using a pretty limited array of tactics. So in 2024 I want to be a bit more adventurous and get out of my comfort zone a bit more. And of the course, the main thing is to ensure that I just carry on enjoying my fishing and appreciating the time I do get to spend on the bank.
