The dreaded day has come for the King family this week, as Angelica is sentenced to eight months in a secure children’s home for her involvement in Heath’s death.
Heartbroken at the thought of her daughter’s bleak future locked up and away from her family, Nicola crumbles, unable to cope. But when Bob sees the King family’s pain, will he reach out to comfort them – and call a truce?
“Nicola and Jimmy are in complete shock,” admits actress Nicola Wheeler, who plays the crushed mum. “For them, eight months is a lifetime – it’s hell on earth. But if there could be peace between them and Bob, life would be easier.”
As the family prepare for the sentencing, Jimmy and Nicola hold back their tears.
Certain that Angel will be sent away for an extended time, Jimmy’s mood sinks even lower.
“On the morning of the sentencing everyone is very tense,” reveals Nicola. “They’re hoping for the best but are preparing for the worst, while trying to keep Angel calm. Jimmy and Nicola are going hoping she won’t get the maximum sentence of three years.”
There’s a surprise encounter before the family head to the sentencing, as Bob offers Angel words of consolation – but any hope is soon destroyed when the judge delivers his verdict.
“Angel is sent to a secure children’s home in Bristol, meaning they can’t visit every day,” explains the actress. “Jimmy and Nicola aren’t going to cope well. Nicola lashes out, so Jimmy gives her a talking to, telling her they have to deal with it. Then there’s an olive branch from Bob…”
