Paul’s ailing health takes another turn for the worse this week, when he starts to seriously struggle with his speech.

Realising that his MND symptoms are progressing at a rapid rate, Paul desperately tries to enjoy the time that he has left with his loved ones. However, is this the beginning of the end for him?

“It’s utterly heartbreaking to watch Paul go downhill so quickly,” reveals our Corrie insider.

“He’s desperate to make memories before his condition takes hold, and has been recording his voice for the speech-generating device he’ll use when he’s unable to talk. Sadly, it appears that could be happening sooner than he thought…”

Billy notices his husband’s speech is beginning to slur quite a bit, and when Paul’s new carer comes to the house she finds it difficult to understand what he’s saying.

The very upsetting interaction is a stark reminder of the kind of future Paul is facing, but Billy still does his best to be optimistic and seems keen to play down how much his other half is declining. It’s up to brave Summer to make Billy face facts, only for the student to be left reeling by what her guardian then discloses…

Billy admits to Summer that Paul intends to take his own life when the cruel disease gets too bad for him to cope with, so he can die on his own terms. With his speech becoming more profoundly affected, Billy fears the day he’s been dreading is fast approaching and he’s scared to discuss the delicate matter.

Summer digests this bombshell, and decides she can’t possibly leave Paul to go to America to take up the scholarship she’s been offered. When Paul gets wind of this, he pleads with Summer not to throw away such an amazing opportunity, but will she listen?

Wanting to lighten the upsetting mood, Paul drags Billy and Summer to karaoke night at the Rovers in an attempt to forget their troubles and enjoy some fun times with their close friends – while they still can. As the punters wrestle over the microphone to give unique v
