CAIN, CALEB AND AARON ARE SET TO DISCOVER THEIR FATE…

Chas’ diagnosis has prompted the other Dingles to get a test

The Dingle men face the moment of truth this week, as Cain, Caleb and Aaron all open the results of their BRCA2 test – have any of them inherited the faulty gene that increases their risk of cancer?

Cain and Caleb’s families are both relieved when their tests come back negative, meaning there’s no chance of them passing the gene on to their children. However, the news isn’t quite so happy for Aaron – forcing him to lie to his mum and pretend that he too had a negative result!

Emmerdale star Danny Miller talks us through a heartbreaking week for his character, and reveals why Aaron feels the need to lie to his loved ones…

Hi Danny! How has Aaron been coping with his mum’s cancer diagnosis?

Not well at all, given how much he’s lost in his life in the past 10 years – he’s imagining the worst-case scenario. Even though Chas plays it down, it’s a worrying time for Aaron because he thinks he’s going to be abandoned by his mum.

Aaron doesn’t know how to cope with his results

How does Aaron feel about the prospect of Chas having surgery?

There’s a bit of worry, but I think he’s very reassured that Chas is taking the right path, and she seems very calm and collected. He’s very comforted by the way Chas is dealing with it. Obviously any surgery of this type is a complicated operation, but he’s not actually worrying.

What’s his initial reaction when he hears about the faulty BRCA2 gene?

At first Aaron isn’t bothered about taking the test, because it’s all related to your kids and who you might pass it on to – in Aaron’s case he can’t see himself ever having kids, certainly not naturally. So that doesn’t bother him.

Caleb is happy to share his good news

What makes him change his mind about having the genetic test?

It’s a number of things; he does it because Cain and Caleb also want to do it. Caleb’s almost using it as an excuse to get back into Cain and Aaron’s good books by suggesting they all go together. But it’s mainly out of respect for his mum; Aaron says: “I’ll do it, and I’m doing it for you.” It’s to reassure Chas more than anything.

Talk us through the day that the results come through…

It’s a nice start to the episode with Cain and Caleb finding out they’re negative, but then Aaron ends up being positive. I don’t think he realises the seriousness of it straight away. It’s a case of him having to deal with it all fairly quietly and privately, so much so that he lies to people about it.
