Carter’s desperate scheme!

DENYING HIS SEXUALITY, HE GETS DOWN ON ONE KNEE…

Unmasked Carter tries to tell Maxine he’s bisexual

Closeted Carter’s world collapses this week – when his true sexuality is exposed to girlfriend Maxine.

The deceptive teacher then goes to drastic lengths to save the sham romance and pops the question! Will Maxine expose his secret? And is his conversion therapy on vulnerable Lucas in danger of being rumbled? Hollyoaks star David Ames, who plays creepy Carter, reveals all…

Hi, David! How does Maxine find out about Carter and John Paul?

Carter is being supportive to John Paul when Sally is taken ill, so John Paul later calls round to Carter’s flat to say he thinks that there could still be something between them – and talks open about them sleeping together. However, Maxine has just moved in with Carter, and overhears everything from the bedroom!

Carter has some serious explaining to do…

His mask is ripped off against his will, so he immediately goes into panic mode. He tries to convince Maxine that he’s bisexual – personally, I think Carter is gay, but he’s telling himself he’s heterosexual. He just likes sleeping with men!

Carter thinks he can keep Maxine by proposing

How does Maxine react?

She’s upset and humiliated. Quite rightly, she thinks she can’t be with someone who is so willing to deceive and hide things in the way Carter has. Maxine is a good person and wishes him a happy future, but it won’t be with her…

What drives Carter to propose?

He is desperate to keep her in his life and thinks he needs to make a grand, overblown gesture, like some sort of Richard Curtis movie. Alas, life isn’t like that! Carter gets down on one knee in the middle of the village and ends up feeling more than a little humiliated himself! It’s so cringey.

Presumably she says no…

She basically tells him to get up! There’s an element of pity, she sees this broken man and knows she’s doing the right thing by calling it off. Outing someone is a low blow and I don’t think someone as nice as Maxine would do that to Carter, although he hasn’t earned that privilege.

Carter concentrates on bringing Lucas back into the flock

Does Carter blame John Paul for this mess?

A bit, which is easier than blamin
