Barmaid Glenda is left fearing for her life this week, as armed burglars raid the Rovers – and make off with the takings!
As cruel fate would have it, Glenda’s alone in the pub when the masked intruders break in, and order her to get down on the floor as they crack open the till. By the time Jenny returns, she finds the pub crawling with police while terrified Glenda tearfully tells her that they’ve been robbed!
So how will these awful events affect poor Glenda going forward? Jodie Prenger, who plays the usually bubbly barmaid, talks us through a horrifying week for her character…
Hi, Jodie! The drama kicks off after Glenda is asked to host the Rovers’ speed-dating night. How is she feeling about that?
She absolutely loves it! She’s probably hosted a few rounds of bingo on the cruise ships, so she’s just going back to what she loves doing. She enjoys getting everyone going and seeing them all have a good time, but she’s also thrilled that there’s going to be single fellas there. I’m sure if she could make it an all-men event, and they all dated her, she would!
How does the event go?
It’s very funny with Steve and Tracy both there, and Glenda watching the regulars of Coronation Street going on dates with each other! It’s going really well, then Glenda teams up with Daisy’s mum Christina and this guy with a distinctive tattoo – but that turns out to be a very bad judgement call…
Later in the evening Glenda’s locking up, but she realises she isn’t alone in the pub…
Something catches Glenda’s eye, and she’s utterly horrified. It’s the worst feeling for anyone to see someone invading your home, because that’s your private space; something you want to protect and look after. The way the scenes are shot is very dramatic, it’s one of the scariest things I’ve filmed in my entire career.
There are two guys who break in – does it get quite physical?
Yeah – and I’m not kidding, I was genuinely scared! There was glass everywhere, there were bats involved, those scenes were so well put together.
This is clearly going to affect Glenda going forward, but will she admit to anybody how scared she’s feeling?
No, Glenda won’t admit to it – it’s her saving face. She doesn’t want to admit to that experience getting to her. I hope that rings true with people who have gone through experiences like that
