Freddie Roscoe returns to Hollyoaks this week – after Mercedes begs him to protect her from her violent ex, Warren!
With Warren determined to make Mercedes pay for her part in his daughter Ella’s death, the mum-to-be is terrified not only for her safety, but for her unborn twins, too. So, seeing no other way out of the situation, she’s forced to call in a reinforcement in the form of her ex-lover Freddie.
Though is it only Mercedes’ plea that’s prompted Freddie to return home, or might he have some other reason to visit Hollyoaks? Returning star Charlie Clapham, who plays Freddie, gives us the lowdown on the big comeback…
Hi, Charlie! It’s been six years since Freddie was last in the village – how did your return come about?
Hollyoaks slipped into my Instagram DMs! I thought it was a prank at first, but it turned out it really was Hollyoaks and they wanted to chat. From there we jumped on a Zoom call. There were certain things Hollyoaks wanted, there were certain things I wanted, although we were able to sort it out really quickly. It’s really lovely, it feels like coming home.
Why is now the right time for you to come back?
It’s a great time for the show, and really exciting. The people in control not only know what they’re doing, but they really care about Hollyoaks. I was here for five years before, and I didn’t want to come back if the character was going to be changed, or there wasn’t a through line. But the momentum is starting to shift and pick up.
What can you tease about Freddie’s return?
It’s very explosive.
