Exciting times ahead for your fave shows…

The future is bright for the world of soap – after rival bosses recently joined forces with actors from EastEnders, Corrie and Emmerdale to explain why these shows are still the most successful on television.

Inside Soap was privileged to attend a special talk held at Bafta HQ, where the BBC’s Kate Oates and ITV’s Iain MacLeod – who oversee the three soaps respectively – revealed why the appetite for our favourite shows is bigger than ever.

Kate Oates has teased a new soap

for continuing dramas and soaps – Neighbours has gone to Amazon Freevee – so I think people are seeing the power of soap, and it could be an exciting time for us again.”

Kate even went so far as to tease a brand-new soap for the Beeb, which is in development.

“It will be set in a university and will be tackling slightly more grown-up themes – we’re looking at it being post-watershed,” she says. Sounds exciting! We encourage you to watch this space…
