Roy’s fate appears to be sealed this week, as a judge denies the café owner bail – and declares that he’ll be remanded in custody until his trial for Lauren’s murder!
When the bleak evidence is read aloud in court, Roy has no choice but to accept his terrible fate: a life in prison, convicted of murder. However, his devastated friends refuse to accept the horrifying news – and as the Lauren mystery rumbles on, Bobby has an extreme plan that might rescue Roy’s future…
“No one can bear to see Roy like this, a broken shell of a man,” sniffs our cobbles spy. “He’s beaten down by the so-called evidence and completely gives up. But his friends on the Street are prepared to take big risks that could set him free.”
Giving up the fight
Having been charged with Lauren’s murder, Roy’s shaken and seems quiet in the police interview room ahead of his appearance in court. He asks Dee-Dee for a piece of paper and an envelope before solemnly writing a goodbye letter to his loved ones.
In the courtroom, the prosecution barrister describes Roy as a violent man, listing his past crimes and using his assault on Gary plus his abduction of Wayne out of context to build a cruel case against him. As Roy shrinks in shame, he’s convinced there’s only one possible outcome – a life condemned to a lonely prison cell…
Awaiting Roy’s bail hearing with everything crossed, Nina, Evelyn and Carla try to remain strong. But when Dee-Dee hands them Roy’s letter, they’re devastated to realise he’s surrendered all fight, now sure he’ll end up behind bars.
Too upset to stay for the hearing, Evelyn rushes home to check on Freddie. Elsewhere, taking to the stand, Dee-Dee puts forward her case and tries to persuade the judge to grant Roy bail. But she’s crushed when the judge refuses, and states that Roy will be held in the cells until his trial takes place.
Bobby’s plan
The outcome of Roy’s hearing is soon the talk of the café as Weatherfield reels in disbelief. Knowing Roy’s locked up for something he didn’t do, Bobby’s determined to find out the truth for Lauren’s sake. He’s given an idea when talking to Bernie, though what scheme does Bobby have in mind to take the heat off Roy?
