Emmerdale is set to embark on a devastating new storyline for Billy and Dawn – when their four-month -old son Evan is diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.
The disease is a type of blood cancer that originates from white blood cells called lymphocytes in the bone marrow, and is tragically most often diagnosed in young people.
So, when doctors deliver the heartbreaking news, Billy and Dawn are beside themselves.
“Like many parents, Evan's diagnosis turns their world upside down so unexpectedly,” shares actress Olivia Bromley, who plays Dawn. “It’s been inspiring to hear the stories of strength and resilience, and also to hear of the incredible NHS staff who do such invaluable work when parents are at their lowest. I've learned so much speaking to parents whose children have been diagnosed – and we want to not only raise awareness, but to do justice to the experience of families who are blindsided by a diagnosis like this.”

As Dawn and Billy navigate their worst nightmare, her father Will and his wife Kim are thrown a fresh curveball, when Will is reunited with a woman from his past. Mysterious Rose – played by former Casualty star Christine Tremarco – will cause a stir when she re-enters Will’s life and he fails to mention it to Kim.
