EMMERDALE | ITV1 TUESDAY

EMMERDALE’S ZOE HENRY AND MARK CHARNOCK REVEAL WHY THIS COULD BE THE LAST SUPPER FOR THEIR CHARACTERS…

Wine and a moan: Alcohol doesn’t help the situation

Following a difficult few months, an informal dinner party with friends sounds like the perfect way for cursed couple Marlon and Rhona to reconnect – right? Wrong!

You’ve already heard how Tom and Belle’s dinner party descends into disaster for the newlyweds (see p4), though they’re not the only Emmerdale pair whose marriage will be tested by the miserable meal.

Prepare for fireworks as resentment and recriminations simmer between Rhona and Marlon, exposing cracks in their rocky relationship and providing awkward entertainment for the other guests! Zoe Henry and Mark Charnock tell us why their alter egos should’ve stayed at home with a takeaway…

Hi, both! Were you excited to be part of this special episode?

Mark Yes, it’s unique and self-contained, almost like a half-hour single drama, and very cleverly done. It’s always nice to be part of something that’s a one-off.

Zoe It felt special and the script was amazing, [writer] Jo Maris did a brilliant job. With only eight of us on set it felt as if we were filming a short play.

How is the atmosphere between Rhona and Marlon this week?

Zoe The word ‘eggshells’ springs to mind after what Rhona did in court! Marlon feels betrayed.

Mark Rhona threw Gus under the bus and he got the maximum sentence. Marlon thought they’d agreed Rhona would be lenient so Gus would receive a lesser sentence and she would get custody of Ivy. As a fellow dad, Marlon felt it was the best compromise, but Rhona changed her mind on the stand and turned them into the bad guys.

Is it a good idea for them to attend this party?

Zoe They should 100% not be there! Rhona and Marlon are the worsts guests in history, and they know it! Marlon is angry Rhona accepted the invitation on his behalf, assuming he’d want to go. Yet another decision she’s made without consulting him…

Cards on the table: Rhona and Marlon find themselves at breaking point

Mark Marlon starts to resent Rhona. It gets pretty ugly running up to the dinner party – they try to sort things out the day before, but it falls apart again and gets much worse. They shouldn’t be out in public as it can only escalate.

Does being around other happy couples make things worse?

Mark It’s like seeing what they had before this got stirred up. The delirious happiness of Mandy and Paddy, the contentment of Vanessa and Suzy – it’s everything Rhona and Marlon are presently not!

Zoe Watching people in love when things are dire in your own relationship – it’s sickening, isn’t it? How bad your marriage is feels magnified by everyone else’s intimacy.
