Brew-tiful: Clive picks coffee beans with sister Judith

Hi Clive! You meet up with your sister Judith in the first episode…

Yes, my parents moved to Britain in the early 60s. Judith had always planned to move back to Jamaica – and she did, bizarrely, just in time for our filming! She’s in Portland, and it’s magical. We pick coffee in the Blue Mountains – best coffee in the world! – and we talk about what it means for her to be back in Jamaica. It was wonderful.

And you go to Boston Bay, the home of Jerk cooking. Did it inspire you to cook anything back home?

My wife would say I don’t cook enough! [laughs] But when I do cook, it tends to be West Indian food, things like rice and peas and Jerk chicken. What I reacquainted myself with was what they call ‘hard foods’: so yam, cassava, breadfruit – things that I grew up with in Bolton from my Caribbean parents, but that I didn’t actually like much at the time.
