We’ve loved every minute of having Vanessa back on our screens this year. So, it’s about time that we put your burning questions to Emmerdale star Michelle…
“How was Vanessa first described to you?”
I didn’t actually audition for Vanessa, I’d just been in for Kerry! But after that, I was told about Vanessa. The producer said that she was Rhona’s best friend, who was a bit of a good-
time girl who might try to get her on the wrong track. I was also told that they might toy with the idea that she has an affair with Paddy. I’m glad they didn’t go with that, because I love Vanessa and Paddy’s brothersister relationship.
“What’s it like working with Amy Walsh, who plays your half-sister Tracy?”
We’re just like sisters! I always say to her, “You’re the sister that I never had.” We’ll sit in Tug Ghyll, where we live on set, and when they’re setting the cameras up we’ll just ramble about anything and everything. We always say we really remind each other of the Gogglebox sisters, Ellie and Izzi – we sound just like them! I could imagine us two on Gogglebox, it’d be hilarious.
“Who’s been your favourite love interest for Vanessa over the years?”
For me, I think Vanessa and Suzy. There’s loads to explore, and I like Suzy’s cool vibe – whereas, let’s face it, Vanessa is a bit geeky. I love that about Vanessa, and it makes her polar opposite to Suzy, which is what I like! I’m really enjoying them, and I think there could be an exciting journey ahead.
“Who or what inspired you to get into acting?”
From about four years old, I was doing little stage shows, raising money for local churches and things like that. But I think what really gave me the acting bug – bear with me – was Grease 2! Anyone who knows me knows that I’m obsessed with Michelle Pfeiffer, and I discovered her when I was about 11 when I watched that film. I was like, “That’s what I want to do – I want to do what she’s doing!”
“If you could play another Emmerdale character for the day, who would it be and why?”
If I was going to go down the costume or hair and make-up route, I’d say Mandy without a shadow of a doubt. But I’m going to have to say Ruby. She’s a very strong woman with opinions, but I think she’s very funny at the same time – she make
