Hi, Eden! How does Belle discover her news?
That morning, Belle has her suspicions she’s pregnant. She has a last-minute appointment with Wendy at the surgery, does a test there – and it’s positive!
How does she feel when the result is positive?
Apprehensive. It’s not what she wants at the moment, but she knows it’s the only thing Tom wants. She doesn’t want him to know – he’ll be so excited. Tom quizzes her over where she’s been and why she didn’t answer his calls. She explains she managed to get an appointment, but keeps the pregnancy a secret.
Does she hide her feelings in front of Wendy?
Wendy definitely picks up on the fact that Belle isn’t pleased about the news. She reassures her that everything is confidential, and if she wants to come back and have a chat she can. In fact, Wendy pops in to see Belle at home the next day. She’s a bit concerned that Belle hasn’t told Tom yet, and can see something is wrong…
Can you talk through the scene where she reveals her news to Tom?
It’s a really awful scene – poor Belle! Tom starts verbally laying into her. He’s embarrassed because Cain and Mandy have a go at him for selling Belle’s car. So he’s getting cross with Belle for supposedly bad mouthing him to her family. His temper rises and it looks as though he’s about to hit her, when Belle blurts out she is pregnant. She only tells him to stop him hitting her.
How does Tom react?
Tom’s whole demeanour changes. He’s delighted, in awe. He even bursts into tears. They go for a walk with Piper, and Belle tries to talk about whether it’s the right time – but Tom thinks it’s the perfect time. Belle is holding
