Is being “just” a password manager enough anymore?

Being a password manager, and both preventing our passwords getting into nefarious hands and saving us from brain explosions as we try to recall 16 random characters just to check our email, used to be enough. Not any more. Now there’s Safe +, and it’s more than a password manager.

That means it backs up more, and indeed it does. It also sparks a conversation about what constitutes your most valuable data, because if you want certain things backed up, it’ll cost you an IAP.

What Safe + has done is simple. It takes a couple different apps that require encryption and sticks them together, liaising with a Mac app for an Apple–only ecosystem of protection.

The main interface of the app is blank, without much hand–holding.

Passwords can be set to various levels of memorability.

So Safe + is also a secure wallet for health insurance data, images of travel documents, passports, and boarding passes. It’ll hold your membership cards and store cards, even your credit cards. Spend enough on IAPs and you can securely back up your photos (free), videos, documents, and contact list.
