The second generation of Shure’s Aonic 50 wireless headphones pack a lot of technology into their lightweight yet robust frame, paired with a capable mobile app for customization. They come in a well– made hard case for transpor tation and the fit is snug yet comfortable for long periods of listening.

The headphones pair easily with your devices and there’s customizable multipoint for device switching and a range of up to 320 feet. A range of codecs are supported from Apple’s basic SBC and AAC through to those found on other devices, including the higher bitrate aptX HD and even LDAC. Happily there are also two wired listening modes available for when you want uncompressed playback. A 3.5mm cable is supplied to enable old–style analog listening, and there’s a USB cable which allows high–quality digital streaming from your computer at up to 32–bit / 384kHz.

That’s impressive though at far above CD quality you’re not likely to have much digital content that warrants it. Still, playing back 24–bit, 44.1kHz WAV files as you’re more likely to do really does result in a richer and more detailed sound when you use the USB connection.
