SWIRL OF SUNSET HUES

Debra Turner beautifully hand dyes soft fibre and yarn from the wonderfully woolly world of her home on the edge of the Cotswolds. Aspiring to capture nature’s enchantment, the colourway of this merino spinning fibre is reminiscent of the setting sun: a charming blend of mulberry pink, burnt sienna and mustard, flushed with sky blue for striking effect. Perfect for hand spinning, hand felting and needle felting, the colours may vary. Merino Spinning Fibre 100g: Pixie Path £12, www.folksy.com/shops/DaisyFlame

SHEDDING LIGHT WHERE NEEDED

The Anglepoise is a balanced-arm lamp with a folding support that can be easily adjusted, thanks to spring mechanisms. The concept was developed in 1932 by British automotive engineer George Carwardine. The revolutionary spring mechanism was originally intended to be part of a vehicle suspension system, but Carwardine ultimately saw how the benefits of this could be applied to a task lamp. The design means that gravity is counteracted by the springs, which allows the lamp to be positioned at any angle without needing to be clamped. The iconic design is still used today for modern lighting in the home.

SIMPLE WALL HANGING WITH A DIFFERENCE

As new clothes are bought and old ones replaced, the wardrobe can become cluttered with mismatched coat hangers. Using a hanger that is not suited to the garment can cause clothes to lose their shape and even snag the material. Organising the wardrobe with uniform hangers that are the same width and height will help prevent this. Any that are no longer needed can be repurposed to form an unusual display. Here, a selection of hangers are hung together as a collection on a wall to catch the eye when climbing the stairs. Different styles, designs, weights and sizes can be displayed together. Using seemingly mundane objects in a decorative way elevates them into something more special, highlighting the beauty in the everyday.
