TREE TOPPER

I wanted to have a small Christmas tree on the table where I sit to plan and crochet my projects and made this Speckled Bird Decoration by Kate McCully to hang on it.

I love the colourful folk-art look of it and it was good practice for techniques like colour changes, bobble stitches, and surface embellishments. Maureen Carter

BAA HUMBUG Here are my hand-knitted 3D Xmas sheep wrist warmers. The pattern is my own. I wanted to design something sparkly and fun, and I hadn’t knitted a Christmas hat (on the sheep) before and was really happy with how it turned out!

TWINKLE TWINKLE I wanted to try making a wreath design and liked this one from issue 144. I added some fairy lights by double crocheting along the wire before wrapping it around the wreath. It’s in the hall adding some light in the evening. It just might stay there all year!

When the first lockdown started I thought I’d have a go at knitting as my partner had to isolate for three months, and we were unable to see each other so I needed something to occupy my mind. My daughter saw this sloth pattern and asked if I could knit it. Many, many hours later a body appeared, and so on. This seal is the first crochet toy I made. He’s from issue 142 and I just started crocheting this year so I’m very pleased with him. Fun fact: my cat Jonathan seems to hate him and always hits him!
