‘The inspiration spawned from a bright red and chrome fire truck, but morphed to this ox-blood red for more sophistication,’ explains Summer. The red inserts are teamed with lightly stained oak and dramatic marble countertops with plum tones, and the design completed with a vintage dining table. ‘It feels strong and adds a dash of edginess to the room without overpowering the space,’ she says. ‘The inspiration for this island was a 1960s slatted screen, owned by the client,’ explains Mike. It was handmade using stained strips of walnut, and topped with Calacatta Rosato marble. Kitchens from £75,000.
