MULLER VAN SEVEREN The design duo on their new exhibition and colourful works

A decade of design is a good excuse to look back at one’s work – so Muller Van Severen’s celebratory exhibition at furniture showroom Viaduct is great timing. Looking at the design duo’s defining furniture and lighting pieces, as well as introducing their new work for Hay, this exhibition is a chance to see Hannes Van Severen and Fien Muller’s work laid bare – and appreciate the full scope of it. We spoke to Fien to find out more…

How did the idea for this exhibition come about?

After seeing our retrospective exhibition at Design Museum Gent, Viaduct contacted us to create this exhibition together. [Viaduct’s founder] James is an incredibly passionate man, and the people around him radiate that passion as well. We find it important to work with people who, like us, love what they do.

How do you hope your designs will be used in people’s homes?

I hope our pieces bring inspiration, passion and a desire to create interesting homes. We always want – or aim – to make things that people can add to themselves, like our WIRE C #2 cabinet: the personal belongings of the user are visible and in this way, every cupboard is different and you can fill it yourself as you like.
