A bold scheme can work in the cook space. You can deliver a decent dose of energy and positivity by using strongly contrasting hues in this practical zone. ‘In this space, we decided to evolve the design around the concept of colour blocking,’ says Ali Baldiwala, founder of interior design studio Baldiwala Edge. ‘Blue and red, being primary colours, create a striking look so we used a monochrome-print tile for balance.’ The black accent colour is continued in the worktop and door furniture to ground the bolder hues.

ON BALANCE
‘We developed the design scheme for this joyful dining space around the Upper Brook Street mural wallcovering in Soleil, which features kniphofia flowers against a sunny yellow background,’ says Ruth Mottershead, creative director, Little Greene. ‘The mural is complemented with deep green Puck on the skirting, while zesty Pale Lime on the door ties the design in with the rug, which also reflects the hot pink of the flowers. The furniture and accessories have been kept neutral, allowing the colours on the walls and floor to remain the focus.’
