Under the eye of designer Camilla Kelly a dignified Edwardian house got a dramatic makeover with more than a few nods to mid-century style – at every turn there are fine lines and organic forms

DINING AREA

‘We used lots of wood in this house,’ says Camilla. ‘It provides a sense of warmth and texture that really transforms a space.’

Camilla Kelly, founder and director of London-based interior design practice The Mint List. She renovated this house for Clare and Jack Laurance, both creatives in the film industry, and their daughters Stella, six, and Teddy, five.

An Edwardian end-of-terrace in northwest London. It now features a living room, snug and large open-plan kitchen-dining room, as well as a boot room and secret playroom for the kids, on the ground floor. On the first floor is the children’s bedroom, family bathroom, a laundry room and the main bedroom, bathroom and dressing room, while in the newly-converted loft there are two more bedrooms, a bathroom and a study.

KITCHEN

The fully bespoke cook space is inspired by mid-century design and shades of white and green were chosen to reference the garden beyond. This area has been zoned with a practical concrete floor that can cope with spills.

SNUG

This relaxing space opens onto the kitchen-dining area but has its own distinct feel. The bespoke room divider mixes raffia-fronted cupboards with open shelves for books, plants and interesting objects.

Sometimes people live with a house for months or even years before making changes, while others snap up a property and power on through the renovations. That was the case for Clare and Jack Laurance, who bought this dignified old Edwardian house at the end of 2020. They stayed on in their old home, just a few streets away, putting renovations into the capable hands of Camilla Kelly of The Mint List, who turned the build around in an impressive six months.
