IMPRESSIVE DESIGNS AND FANTASTIC IDEAS FOR CREATING THE PERFECT RETREAT

DARK AND MOODY

‘This house is in the mountains where bright snow dominates in winter, so we created a dark, layered mood to contrast,’ says architect Thomas Griem, founder, TG Studio, who worked with architectural assistant Marco Siviglia on the project. ‘The secret to pulling off a monochromatic look is to add shapes and textures: here, the rectangular vanity unit combines with curves in the mirrors.’ The vanity’s smooth stained-oak frame contrasts with the textured granite top and plaster walls. 1. LONG DIVISION

Designer Stephanie Dunning, founder, Dunning & Everard, cleverly zoned a long, narrow bedroom suite in a listed arts and crafts house. ‘The wall behind the Arabescato marble-topped vanity unit screens the bathroom from the bedroom,’ she explains. Bathroom design, Dunning & Everard.

2. CLASSICALLY MODERN

Michelle Jager-van ’t Hof, head of design, Even Eleven, made the elegant vanity unit the focal point of this classic bathroom with a modern twist. ‘Botteganove tiles and curvy mirrors create a harmonious juxtaposition,’ she says. Vanity unit, £9,486, Drummonds. Bathroom design, Even Eleven.

3. COOL TEXTURE

A limewash from Portola Paints adds texture and warmth to this powder room. ‘The small space allowed us to create a jewel-box effect using a cool, oceanic blue-green,’ says designer Zoe Feldman. A sink by Waterworks and brass accents complete the look. Bathroom design, Zoe Feldman Design.

4. STRIKING TONES

A spacious shower replaced a cramped bath in this en suite. ‘My client was keen on turquoise as the key colour as she loves bold tones,’ says Dena Kirby, senior designer, Ripples. Brass fittings bring a note of luxury, while the Drench Frame Lite shower screen, £1,649, adds definition. Bathroom, Ripples.

HIGH DRAMA

Renowned for his sophisticated designs, Steven Gambrel, founder and president, SR Gambrel, hand-picked the blocks of Breccia Capraia marble for this principal bathroom. ‘Phil Liederbach, of Liederbach & Graham Architects, and I chalked out what we needed on the walls inside the quarry,’ he recalls. ‘The dramatic veining of the stone creates high impact, while its myriad soft grey hues introduce a quiet depth. Phil’s beautifully proportioned architectural detailing frames nature perfectly.’ Architecture, Liederbach & Graham Architects. Bathroom design, SR Gambrel.
