ELEGANT PATCHWORK
The trend for patchwork is only going to grow, so interpret the look through your curtains with afabric that layers up abstract shapes for amore modern, sophisticated approach. Depicting blooming flowers, Casamance’s Parade fabric uses two embroidery techniques to create contrasting matt and subtly shiny finishes; a black or white cotton-satin background brings negative space to the glorious pattern.

Lighter-weight curtains can benefit from layered woven details as much as heavier ones. There’s an ethereal quality to this linen design by Élitis, which features woven squares finished with wispy, irregular cut threads. It was inspired by haute couture and has enough drama to make an impact in a space despite its subtle colourway.

For a softer take on this look, opt for chunky multi-weave fabrics in neutral colourways. They’re easy to mix and match across curtains, upholstery and cushions without overwhelming a space – call it understated maximalism. The Columbia fabric by Prestigious Textiles has apattern of irregular cubes creating a sense of movement and a subtle energy.

Use sparingly in upholstery – perhaps on an armchair or a stool as pictured here – this is awelcome pop of richness for any space.
MODERN MIX
