The hotel gets a Livingetc-friendly make over under new ownership of the Experimental Group. Walls in Farrow &Ball’s Inchyra Blue and chairs by Egon Eiermann sit on vast checked rugs (designed in-house) we’d be happy to feature in our shoots.

Dorothée Meilichzon is the creative vision behind all the Experimental hotels and brings a sense of contemporary flair. This is a country manor done for a modern sensibilit y, with colours as bold as the decorative choices.

Two swimming pools (indoor and out) plus treatment rooms offer therapies like Lime and Walnut Body Wrap, which is as invigorating as it sounds.

The grounds are exquisite. Blowsy f lower beds flank the back of the house, looking out onto swan-filled lakes. Take afternoon tea on this back terrace and let the wonder of it all wash over you.

The Peninsula , London

Occupying a prime spot on Hyde Park Corner, with more than a nod to the quintessential grand British house, this newly opened hotel celebrates the best of UK craftsmanship and artistry.

There are nods to heritage st yle, but with a modern twist that feels fancy yet relaxed. Rooms feature patterned upholstery and marble tables. Just don’t get too used to the mahogany-panelled dressing room if you don’t have one at home –we’d hate for you to be disappointed once you’re back from your trip.

Chef Claude Bosi leads Brooklands, the hotel’s rooftop eatery – but Canton Blue, with its innovative Cantonese cuisine, earns this place an extra gold star for its multi-course tasting menu.

The hotel commissioned more than 40 artists from The Royal Drawing School to create original artwork – so you might find yourself discovering anew favourite while you’re here.
