Apple’s amazing web browser has gained some great new features

In Sonoma, you can separate your Safari browsing into Profiles such as Work, Home, School, and so on, and switch between them when need be.

SAFARI HAS LONG been the browser of choice for Apple users, and Sonoma gives it some great new features. You might be using some of them already, but if you want to delve deeper, take a look at some of these amazing capabilities.

1 Safari profiles

With Profiles, you can compartmentalize your browsing, with separate bookmarks, browsing histories, cookies and extensions for work, home, a hobby club, and so on. If you use a specific site for two different reasons (home and work, perhaps) with two different log–ons, you can even sign in to them separately and switch between them instantly.

In Safari, use the Safari top–bar menu to open the app’s Settings. Click the Profiles tab and add and remove profiles with the "+" and "–" icons (bottom left). Switch between active profiles using the button in the top– left corner.

2 Favicons

These are website icons used in your Safari Favorites bar. To show and hide this Favorites bar, in the top menu, click View and then choose Show/Hide Favorites Bar (or press Shift+Cmd+B for the keyboard shortcut). The Favorites bar appears below the toolbar. To show or hide the icons displayed next to the favorites shown here, Ctrl–click anywhere in the bar and check or uncheck Show Icons.

3 Auto close tabs

If you have a lot of tabs open, you can Ctrl–click on one and close it, close all the tabs except the one you clicked on, or close all the tabs to the right of it. In Sonoma, you can even have tabs close automatically. Open Safari’s Settings in the Safari top–bar menu. Click on Tabs in the Settings window’s toolbar, and look for the "Automatically close tabs" option. By default, it’s set to Manually, but if you click here to open the menu, you can choose to close tabs automatically if they haven’t been accessed for a day, week or
