Of all the versions of the Music app available on Apple devices, the iPad version is our favourite.

It’s simpler to use than the Mac app, and less cramped than the one on iPhone, and it offers the best features of both. Better still, the Music app on iPad makes the most of your tablet’s bigger screen with a great-looking interface that puts all the key features easily at your fingertips.

To enjoy music on on your iPad you will need at least one of three things: an Apple Music subscription (from £10.99/month); an existing

Music library on Mac that you can sync your iPad with using either a cable or over Wi-Fi; or a subscription to iTunes Match (£21.99/month), which puts your music library in the cloud, so you can access it anywhere you can get an internet connection.

1 Apple Music

Tap Listen Now, Browse or Radio to access the thousands of tracks available on Apple’s music service.

2 Library

The songs you own arranged by Artist, Songs, etc. Downloaded contains the songs stored on your iPad.

3 Main window

What you see here depends on whether you’re looking the Apple Music or your personal music library.

4 Playback

This floating window shows the currently playing track. Tapping here invokes the full-screen view.

HOW TO Listen to Music on your iPad

Looking for something to listen to? Tap Listen Now, Browse or Radio under Music in the sidebar to see the thousands of songs, albums, playlists and stations available on Apple’s music streaming service. Tap one for more details.

Here we’ve chosen the ‘Feeling Happy’ playlist. Tap the Play button at the top to play the tracks in order. Or Tap shuffle for a randomised selection. To add the playlist to your library, tap the ‘+’ button in the top-right corner.
